Brendan Lawler – Principal Solicitor
Brendan John Lawler was educated in Auckland and received an LLB from Auckland University and holds a New Zealand Law Society Practising Certificate.
He commenced practice at Rennie Cox Garlick & Sparling, Solicitors, Auckland in 1979 and completed his LLB degree at the University of Auckland.
He was admitted to the bar the following year and practiced at Rennie Cox Garlick & Sparling as a solicitor until 1983.
He worked in the United Kingdom in various legal roles and returned to New Zealand in 1985 working briefly in private practice before setting up Lawler & Co at the beginning of 1987.
Brendan has a long time connection with the Eastern Bays area as a resident and member of the College Rifles Rugby Club. He has served on several boards, including having chaired the Board of Trustees of Sacred Heart College for some years.
He enjoys a close professional relationship with his brother Edmund Lawler of Edmund Lawler & Associates which firm specialises in commercial law.
Lois Madden – Legal Executive
Lois Madden qualified as a legal executive in 1994 and has worked both part time and full time since then at Lawler & Co. She currently works as our trust account person/office manager, together with her legal executive duties which include conveyancing, estates and trust maintenance.
John Reardon – Litigation Consultant – B.A. (Hons) LL.B.
John was educated at St. Kevin’s College, Oamaru and Otago University. He graduated with an honours degree in philosophy, and law in 1975. John’s area of practice is in civil litigation and relationship property. He has appeared as counsel in numerous cases in the High Court and Court of Appeal, and one case in the Privy Council in London.
John worked in Italy after he graduated, Simpson Grierson in Auckland and Cooper Rapley in Palmerston North.
John now resides with his wife Callista in Waikanae, and is a frequent visitor to Auckland. They enjoy looking after grandchildren, cycling and swimming.
Victoria Hatrick-Smith – Solicitior
Victoria is a staff solicitor who joined the firm in December 2016. She was admitted to the Bar in July 2016 after completing her LLB at AUT University. She has had previous experience working in a small general practice firm in the city. Outside work, Victoria enjoys spending weekends at the family bach on Kawau Island and playing the odd game of amateur tennis.
Josh Wood - Solicitor
Josh is a solicitor who joined the firm in February 2018. He was admitted to the Bar in June 2018 after completing his LLB at Victoria University of Wellington. Before joining the firm Josh took a gap year to pursue his passion for travel and experiencing different cultures. Outside work, Josh enjoys getting out of Auckland and playing for his rugby club, Marist North Harbour.
